Visual identity

A system that still works when we are not in the room.

Typical duration
10–20 weeks
Studio team
3–5 people
Includes
Guidelines + source files
Font licensing
Advised, client-held

In short

An identity is not a logo, it is a set of rules that lets a hundred future decisions be made consistently by people who were not at the kickoff. We design for the handover, which means documentation is part of the work rather than a file we send afterwards.

What you get

Deliverables.

  • Wordmark, marks and their construction rules
  • Typographic system with licensing sorted
  • Colour system, including print and screen behaviour
  • Layout, grid and image direction
  • Applied design across your real touchpoints
  • Guidelines written for the people who will use them

How it runs

Four phases, in order.

01

Territories

Two or three genuinely different directions, each with a rationale. Not one idea with three colourways.

02

Pressure test

We apply the leading direction to your hardest surfaces first — the tiny ones, the ugly ones, the ones with legal text on them.

03

Build

Full system design: type, colour, grid, motion, imagery, and the templates your team will live in.

04

Handover

Working files, a written rule set, and a session with the people who have to use it. We stay reachable for the first campaign.

Asked every time

The first-call questions.

Do we own the work?

Yes. Full transfer of the delivered identity on final payment, with source files. Typeface licences are held in your name — we advise, you own.

Can you work with our existing name?

Almost always. Renaming is expensive and rarely the actual problem; we recommend it only when the evidence is unambiguous.

Need visual identity?

A 45-minute call with the people who would do the work. If we are not right for it, we will say so and suggest who is.
